The CHOP sarcoma team is involved in multidisciplinary research to address pressing issues in the biology and treatment of Ewing’s sarcoma, osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and other soft tissue sarcomas in children, adolescents and young adults. Basic science research conducted here has led to a better understanding of sarcoma biology and the importance of molecular diagnostics in sarcomas. CHOP surgical, medical, and radiation oncologists work together to conduct clinical studies of the most current systemic therapies used in combination with recently developed strategies for primary tumor treatment. Research projects involve colleagues in pathology and radiology as challenges in disease assessment are addressed. In addition, the sarcoma team is integrally involved in early phase clinical trials of novel agents that hold promise for the treatment of recurrent and metastatic disease.
